A writer suppressed…
Two years ago I realized I should get off my verbal soapbox ranting, and start DOING.
The next day I met with a friend to discuss my desire to put my rants into action, to stop wishing the world would change, and to make a difference. Corny but true.
The next day, a new non-profit, Mountain to Mountain was born and this is the story of its evolution, and mine, striving to ‘be the change you want to see in the world’.
Part of changing the world is getting the word out. Making sure that people know what they can do and how to do it. Becoming a storyteller. Yes, becoming a writer. Of sorts.
SO…a blogger emerges.
My wish is that you’ll read these stories, get inspired, send your friends to this blog, discover your global neighbors, and somehow, somewhere – ‘be the change’.
Enjoy the ride!

As I read your article on My Fathers Spirit in Kabul I find myself feeling humble , proud of your energy and character , and sad at how fast those times past .
I still remember you hanging onto the para-foil kite and being drug down the hill slope at the Mandan Kite day . I remember the quiet days on the hills over looking the Missouri River as we flew our fighter kites and watched the varied and fascinating colors as they played in the wind with the sun playing off the long tails trailing them .
I watched in awe as you held on to the kite string with your eyes fixed on the sky , your face excited but serious as you guided the kite in the wind. We would talk of small things , wind , warmth of the sun on our faces and of the fun it was to watch the colors fly so freely in the air.
And now today I see you flying free but to other lands where people need a helping hand , and support to find their own dreams. They lift up their eyes and see the same colors as we saw on our days of kite flying . The difference is that they fear their dreams may be trod on by those who fear lofty spirits and dreamers .
You are flying more than kites now. You are flying a spirit of hope , opportunity , and freedom to make choices ,seek an education and select a path for the future of children in a land where just staying alive can be a good day .

Hi Shannon, it’s Christopher Gabriel from WDAY in Fargo. Thank you for a sensational interview today. You’re doing remarkable things and to say the least, it was a privilege speaking with you.
I fully intend to have you back on with me down the road. In the meantime, all the best to you and your daughter…be safe.

Dear Shannon,
Your compassion to help women and children in Afghanistan has touched my heart. You are one courageous woman!
I was born and raised in Kabul, Afghanistan in the good old times and left the country when the Soviets took over. I went back to visit in 2006, it broke my heart to see the city in such chaos, the hopeless looks on the faces of the people and the countless children that have become beggars out on the streets.
Are you planning to be in DC or NY area? I would love to meet you!!! I would like to host a Fundraiser Event sometime this year to support the cause. Also, like to learn more about your Panjshir Tour. I am a biker myself and want to know how I could help out here from the east coast.
Please contact me!
Fondly,
Maryam Demaine
